The Virtual Fracture Clinic is made up of orthopaedic doctors and physiotherapists. We review orthopaedic cases that are referred to us from the Emergency Department (ED) or Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).

We review patient x-rays and medical notes together to decide on the most appropriate management for a specific injury.

The physiotherapists then contact the patient within 72 hours of them receiving the referral to discuss their condition and how to manage it.

After this review, the condition can be managed with one of the following:

  • a specialty orthopaedic clinic
  • an advanced physiotherapy practitioner review clinic
  • a referral to physiotherapy or hand therapy
  • self-management

We have information leaflets with exercises, a rehabilitation plan and details of expected healing times for the fracture or injury.
